In 1995 Forty-three more sheep were added. At the “Wedding of the Waters,” the Wind River becomes the Bighorn River, named for the mountain sheep indigenous to the area. Before it leaves the canyon, the river changes names. The Lewis and Clark Expedition named the northern (lower) reaches of the river the Bighorn River, while native Americans called the upper reaches the Wind River.
